We had Poem-In-Your-Pocket Day on Monday!  Students shared their chosen poems with each other throughout the school day.
Our classroom poetree has started to grow!  Students observe the nature right outside our classroom, and write short lines of poetry on leaves to add to our tree.
We used our heart maps this week to help us create poetry!
Musicians from 317 Main came to teach first graders about string instruments!
We've started our ocean murals in science.  Each day we learn about a new sea creature and add it to our mural.  Here are some questions we ask before we add anything new to our murals:
-How big is it?
-Does it have to breath air?
-Does it live close to shore or deep in the ocean?
-What does it eat?

On Friday we visited Eartha as part of our mapping unit!

We've been exploring, interpreting, and making a TON of maps over the past few weeks!  We've learned to use a compass rose, symbols, and grids to better understand a variety of maps.

Our final mapping activity requires each student to create a map of his/her bedroom.  Directions, examples, and materials were sent home in folders on Tuesday.  The finished products should be returned to school by Tuesday, May 16!

Students have been hard at work publishing stories for the first grade writing celebration.  On Friday we paired up with students from other first grade classrooms to share our final drafts!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there!  We appreciate you!
