Week 22

We've started studying force and motion in science this week.  Students created tops out of different sized disks and straws and determined both the force and the motion in the experiment.  See their top designs and hear their scientific thinking on Seesaw!

After a few weeks of studying non-fiction text features, the class worked together to complete a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting two non-fiction books on the same topic.

We've started writing how-to books in writers workshop!  Students are practicing writing step by step directions, creating teaching pictures, using transition words, and writing endings.  Some book topics so far:
How To Wrap and Deliver a Present
How to Make a Bed
How to Brush Your Teeth
How to Make a Pizza
How to Play With a Dog
How to Do The Breaststroke

Mrs. Wolinsky introduced us to BlueBots! She let us explore ways to program them and intentionally make them move and arrive at designated locations.

We will be celebrating the 100th day of school next week!  Please help your child count out 100 items to bring to school for the big day!

Week 21

We received a stack of new books for our classroom library this week!

We've been working on fact power in math this week, but also had some time to explore other math tools.

Students researched different geodome size and price options for our playground, voted on their #1 choice, made a poster, and presented their research to Ms. Honan!  Ms. Honan informed us that she will present our research to the head of community services next week.  And to think, this all started with a persuasive letter!
In science we used our knowledge from recent science experiments to make mobiles, which are now decorating our classroom!
We also had some free time to experiment with all the different balance materials we've used over the past few weeks.  There was lots of creative balancing happening!

Report cards are in home/school folders!  Please peek at these prior to your conference time and jot down any questions I can answer or any thoughts you'd like to discuss!
