In science we wrapped up balance and motion by creating one HUGE marble runway!

Then we started learning about weather and the water cycle!

Happy Spring!

We, along with Mrs. Lincoln's class,  led the March community meeting to welcome spring!  The end result was a beautiful spring mural created by ALL the members of Rowe School!
On Wednesday author and illustrator Cathryn Falwell visited us to talk about how she comes up with book ideas, illustrates, and revises her writing!

In science students made runways for marbles.  After working in small teams for practice, multiple partnerships combined forces and made bigger runways!  Students focused on slope and speed when designing their runways.
We've started studying polygons in math.  Students used straws and twist ties to create their own polygons!

More rolling experiments this week!  Students had to design a system to make paper cups roll straight.  They also experimented with weight to see if it made their cups roll farther.

Ms. Rancourt's guidance lesson this week focused on personal space at school.  Students used hula hoops to help them visualize appropriate personal space bubbles while moving through the classroom and lining up.

In writers workshop students have been working on writing introductions for their informational texts!

We've started a new writing unit!  Students are now writing informational texts.
In word study we've been learning more about long vowel sounds.
In science this week students created wheel and axle systems out of straws and different sized disks.
After working with a partner to create a design they thought would roll far, we had a class roll-off!
The winning design team!
Students used their ipads to program their Blue Bots to move on different maps this week!

Week 24

Students made a series of twirlers this week and experimented with them to see which design rotated the fastest and longest.  Students tallied their observations in a class chart and wrote about their findings in their journals.
We've been receiving lots of responses to persuasive letters lately!  Most recently Mia Colton (the author of the Danny books) and Judy Blume responded to student letters!
Students published their how-to books this week and shared them with their kindergarten buddies!

On Friday we learned some new ways to program our new Blue Bots by using an app on our ipads!
On Wednesday we welcomed two new students into our classroom!  We are so excited they are here!
